Father’s book sent to the publishers!

Well yesterday was the day I chose to send the MS of my father’s book to the publishers. It’s the account of his time during the period from when he joined up with the RAF on 8 Aug 1941 to the official day of his demob on 1 Jan 1948!

His training at various places is described along with stories about his peers and then moves along to his time at Oakington in Cambridgeshire as an air-gunner on Stirlings.  I managed to find out his actual flying ops by paying for and downloading them from the National Archives – a2a service… the information I’ve included in a table form at the back of the book.

I decided to design the cover, too, using a good photograph of him in his uniform with a sky in the background. I rather like it… let’s hope that prospective buyers are also drawn to both the cover and the title: ‘Of Stirlings and Stalags: an air-gunner’s tale’

I don’t know how long the publishing process takes but the text runs to over 85,000 words so it’s a substantial book and not just a booklet.  I’ll put something up here when I know more.
